What is the difference between an inverter generator and a generator? 

The main difference between an inverter generator and a generator lies in the energy created.  An inverter generator produces an alternate current which is then converted internally into a direct current.  This makes the energy produced by an inverter cleaner and more efficient as it produces power on an as needed basis.  Rather than running at full tilt.  This means that inverters are better equipped to power sensitive electronics like phones, tablets, laptops, and TV's.
