While the dangers of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning from portable generators cannot be emphasized enough, A-iPower has introduced an additional safety measure to help prevent fatalities from CO.
The SUA5000P 5000-watt generator is equipped with a Carbon Monoxide Detecting System – CO Watch Guard – that automatically shuts down the generator when carbon monoxide is detected. This happens when a generator is not properly located away from the home or building or is an enclosed or partially enclosed space.
A blinking red light on the generator indicates it was shut off due to accumulating CO. Then you must move the generator to an open, outdoor area far from occupied spaces with exhaust pointed away – at least 20 feet from windows, doors, or vents. It can then be re-started. However, you still may be subject to CO, as it takes time to dissipate.
Remember, carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless, and tasteless. It’s critical to note the signs of CO poisoning – dizziness, weakness, or feeling sick. If you experience any of these symptoms, call emergency services immediately.
Even with automatic shut-off, a potentially lifesaving failsafe, running a portable generator outside – far from doors and windows in well-ventilated areas – is the only way to maintain safety.
